Welcome to the Human Research Ethics website.
All Deakin staff members and students who plan to carry out any research involving human participants require ethical clearance from the Deakin University Human Research Ethics Committee (DU-HREC) prior to commencement. Research involving humans includes, but is not limited to, surveys, interviews, exercises, experiments (both psychological and physical), close observation, depiction (including photographs and videos), use of identifiable personal records, etc.
The National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007), developed jointly by the National Health and Medical Research Council, the Australian Research Council and the Australian Vice-Chancellor's Committee, sets outs national standards for ethical design, review and conduct of human research.
The purpose of this National Statement is to promote ethically good human research, which also involves the fostering of research that is of benefit to the community. The National Statement is designed to clarify the responsibilities of institutions and researchers.
